  • Evaluating sources

Book

The book is published with a US publishing company Wiley, which is an international brand well-known for its academic publishing and instructional materials. The book is published in 2009, and since it’s an introduction to the concept of image classification in one of the chapter, the information is still consider updated and valid for my research as background material. Both authors of this book are in electrical engineering field, which might have bias towards using research methods commonly used in this specific engineering disciples. However, they both have every long time research experience in this field and considered authority in the field. The book features the Kernel methods’ application towards mage classification, which will be informative on my machine learning perspective of my research.

Website

The article is posted on the Natural Resources Canada which is government of Canada website as an educational resources to the public about image classification and Analysis. Since it’s an official government website, the source is more trust-worthy. The last modified date of the website is November 2013, which is around 5 years ago but again it’s a basic introduction of the concept so the knowledge delivered in this article is still relevant and valid. Since the article is not intended to professional, so it’s not in-depth and straight forwards, which is good as an introduction to the research. However, not enough information or cases are used to support the concept explained so further research still required to have full understanding of the topic.

Journal article

This journal article is published on the peer-viewed International Journal of Automation and Computing, with impact factor of 1.70 in 2017. The authors of the article are a group of researchers consisting of 3 PhD. and a professor in Loughborough University. This might lead to limitation of research direction and data processing method. However, all authors come from different background of undergraduate and master study, ranging from mathematics to aerospace engineering, which provides valuable experience from different professional fields. The article focus on satellite classification issue in agriculture field, which would make good example and case study to my research. Various sources are cited, including some fundamental research paper as well as recent published journal articles, showing their strong understanding of the topic and interested in leading technologies.
